This song was originally on a line dance compilation of country music that sold many thousands of copies before the firm
went bust.
At one time The Caravan Club of Great Britain bought a number of recordings to play in all their centres in the UK,
although to be honest I thought of it more as an anthem for the New Age Travellers.
I still think its a great song and I fully intend to do a purely acoustic version this year sometime. I would love
it if someone in the caravan industry could see its potential - perhaps one of TV programmes or TV channels devoted
to the caravanning classes.
Since the demise of the original recording and publishing company, the rights to the song have been passed through many
hands. However it has thankfully come to rest in the hands of Campbell Connelly, a division of Music Sales - one the
best publishing companies in the world. If you would like to use this song, you will find that they have a very human
face and will be pleased to assist.

Like all the best songs - The Caravan Song came
in a moment of inspiration.
I had this really awful supply teaching job
in Nottingham. Five other teachers had already walked out, but I was too broke to do that - I just had to hang on in
there.
One day, my head of department told me he wanted
to sell his caravan. It was an old and tatty caravan, and I paid him £450 for it, but Denise reasoned, at least
we would emerge from the six months of hell of this job, with all our debts paid and a caravan.
All I can say is that, you first caravan is
a unique feeling. After all you could drive this little van to the gates of Moscow, go overland to Delhi or Madrid,
or Capetown...its a moment of elation. A vision of freedom in a world, where such visions aren't granted on a regular
basis.
